After working like crazy for six months, I decided that a new job wouldn't hurt me and I've been using the... LinkedIn to deceive and disappoint me, since my applications for the few offers that made my heart flutter were solemnly ignored… without even a message saying “we saw” or “we didn’t even look” at your resume!
The point is that many invitations for new connections also arise, and just like in Facebook, I don't have much to hide, and I tend to accept most people who are in a context in which I am also involved.
But this Sunday I received an unusual invitation:

What would a bank manager in London want with me?!?
Worse still, to further dramatize the situation, he left the following message in the voicemail:
I thought about it carefully and, since I have nothing to lose, I decided to reply... what if he needed an advisor over in Europe, right?
Hey,
I'm not very confident about this contact, but I need to know what you might want to talk to me about…
Please, without attachments or links, tell me what I could do for you.
Yours sincerely,
Geovane Souza
I admit I could have been less harsh, but I'm so out of patience for nonsense that those were the only words I could muster.
After sending it, I kept imagining how indignant a true English lord would be to receive such disregard from a little black guy — okay, big black guy — from Brazil: if it were something good, I could have ruined everything…
But it seems my coldness didn't scare off "Sir" Bennett, and he politely replied and explained his objectives:
People!!! Isn't this just a bedtime story?!?
First of all, “Souza” is second only to “Silva” in terms of common names here in Brazil: one of the most frustrating days of my life was when I discovered that “Geovane” is equivalent to “João” in Italian, because realizing that “Geovane Souza” is nothing more than an improved “João Silva”—that is, almost a “John Doe”—was quite disappointing!
Then there's this story about the more than 4 million pounds that Mr. Guerra Souza, a citizen of "my country," left adrift when he died in the 2011 Japan earthquake... it sounds like a prisoner's rambling about winning a car on Faustão's show!
Finally, an ethical manager wouldn't seek out just any "Souza" from Brazil to propose a move that is, at the very least, improper... that's downright immoral, and if this Russell isn't a con artist, he should be fired as soon as they find out he's making these kinds of offers to strangers!
Indignant, I decided to respond:
Oh, I'm really sorry about that, but I don't have... (I was angry and swallowed the "don't have") I have no relationship whatsoever — he's not family, he's not a friend… — with Mr. Guerra Souza, and I could never receive anything from him.
I am a Christian who lives a life in pursuit of the truth and, even for an exorbitant amount of money, I could never lie or agree to any "suspicious alteration of the facts.".
Good luck with your search, and God bless you if this is real, but… if not… I hope He lays His hands on you, and you know, He is love, but He is also fervent justice.
Compliments!
And there?
Should I have given it some line to see how far that creature would go?
And if that were true, wouldn't handling other people's money make me just as corrupt, thieving, and dirty as Brazilian politicians?
Nothing in my life has come easy, and what little I have was (and continues to be) earned through hard work: it's difficult, but it's fair and allows me to sleep in complete peace!
Please note that I am not refusing to receive more than £4 million that any of you may wish to donate to me, but if you want to do good, to me or to anyone else, please… do it right!
A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than wealth or gold.
It is better to eat a piece of dry bread in peace than to have a banquet in a house full of quarrels.

Thank you for your attention.
